The easternmost outpost of Sweden since 1809 when Finland was lost to Russia. Haparanda have always been an important trading post, this continues until this day with the northenmost IKEA warehouse in the world, bringing customers from all across the Barents region. It is a great gateway to the wild north of Scandinavia. Most people here speak both Swedish, Finnish and English.
