Galveston Island State Park (http://www.galvestonislan...) - Just a short drive west of the city of Galveston. While the Gulf shore campground and visitors center were destroyed by Ike, the park has reopened on a limited basis for day visitors.
Carnival and Princess cruise lines perhaps others have regular cruises which depart from Galveston.
